Junior Accountant

Job Purpose:

The Junior Accountant is responsible for contributing to the corporate accounting responsibilities and goals as they relate to the stabilized income-producing properties. Under the direction of the Director of Finance, the Junior Accountant will assist the Corporate Accounting function with full-cycle accounting, specifically including banking requirements, GST/HST returns, as well budgeting and reporting. This position requires attention to detail and strong organization skills to maintain the integrity of the Corporate Accounting function.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all bank transactions are posted and cleared daily in Yardi
  • Monitor and report on daily banking activity
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for all operating entities
  • Download monthly statements and cheque copies
  • Coordinate with various banking contacts to clear up administrative issues
  • Maintain electronic filing system for all banking documentation
  • Prepare and file monthly GST/HST returns for all operating entities in the group Process income tax instalment payments to and refunds from CRA
  • Prepare draft working papers and supporting schedules for year-end files
  • Assist with audits/review of GST/HST and Corporate Income Tax returns by CRA
  • Maintain electronic filing system for all supporting files and CRA correspondence
  • Prepare monthly accruals and other month end entries in Yardi
  • Reconcile sub-ledgers and balance sheet accounts (A/R, A/P, leasing assets, intercompany accounts)
  • Compile data and prepare draft month-end and quarter-end financial reports, including consolidation with reports for properties/projects managed by other parties
  • Compile data and prepare draft of annual budgets (non-recoverable items) and upload budget data in Yardi
  • Assist with various data analyses and custom reporting initiatives
  • Provide support to A/R and A/P processes (back-up function)

Skills Required:

  • Post-secondary education, preferably in Commerce, Business Administration, or equivalent discipline
  • Accounting designation, or working towards one, considered an asset
  • Minimum 3-5 years relevant working experience, preferably in the real estate industry
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information professionally
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work well independently, and as part of a growing team, while adhering to deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel with strong knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook
  • Working knowledge of Yardi Voyager is an asset
